Cormar carpets in Huddersfield

Cormar Carpets was founded in 1956 by Neville Cormack, O.B.E., who started the business aged 26 after buying two tufted carpet machines at an industrial machinery exhibition in Manchester.

The company began at Nunn Hills Mill in Lancashire's Rossendale Valley, before moving in 1959 to Brookhouse Mill in Greenmount, Bury, where it still operates today. In 1973 it acquired Holmbury Carpets and moved further tufting machinery to Holme Mill in Ramsbottom.

Cormar now operates two mills, both in Lancashire, along with a distribution centre in Hemel Hempstead. It remains a British, family-run business, and trade press has described it as the largest single independent carpet manufacturer in the UK, employing over 400 people and supplying more than 3,000 retailers across the UK and Ireland.

Product ranges include Wool Twist, Wool Loop and Saxony carpets, alongside Easy Clean carpets made from polypropylene.

Cormar was the first major carpet manufacturer to achieve full certification from Innovate Recycle for its polypropylene ranges, recognised as 100% recyclable, and has been a member of Carpet Recycling UK since 2009, receiving the organisation's Long-standing Support Award in 2016.

Readers of trade title Interiors Monthly have voted Cormar “Best Carpet Manufacturer” for 13 consecutive years.
