Ulster carpets in Huddersfield
Aspley Carpets stocks and fits carpets from Ulster at our Huddersfield showroom, alongside Cormar, Brockway and Cavalier.
History
Ulster Carpets was founded in 1938 by George Walter Wilson and is still a family-owned business, now in its fourth generation. By its own account, its carpet has been designed, dyed, woven and finished on the same site in Portadown, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, ever since.
The company describes itself as a British company, and says its Axminster and Wilton carpets are “manufactured in the UK, primarily at our home in Portadown”. Ulster Yarns, the group's wool processing and dyeing business, works from Dewsbury and Wakefield in Yorkshire.
What they make
Ulster makes Axminster, Wilton and tufted loop carpets for the home and for hospitality, including wool-rich ranges and a Natural Choice collection in 100% undyed wool. Its hospitality work covers hotels, casinos and cruise ships, with projects it names including Claridge's in London and the Mandarin Oriental in Vienna.

Ulster holds a Royal Warrant of Appointment from King Charles III, following an earlier warrant from Queen Elizabeth II, and says it supplied the carpet for the King's Coronation at Westminster Abbey.
It also describes itself as the world's largest single-site producer of Axminster and Wilton carpets.
